Obituary for William F. “Bill” Lumpkin, III
William F. “Bill” Lumpkin, III died Friday, November 22, 2019 in his home. He was 81.
Born in Jackson, MS, on July 10, 1938, he was the son of the late William F. Lumpkin, Jr. and Lelia Elene Wicks Wellons. Bill was raised in Clinton, where he lived most of his life, and was a graduate of Clinton High School. His undergraduate studies at Mississippi College were interrupted for his duty and service in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Upon completion of his service, he returned to MC where he received his baccalaureate degree in business.
Bill was dedicated to career in the insurance industry as an insurance claim manager. He took great pride in his responsibilities and loved working with people. He was a man of many talents and skills, persevering and committed to any endeavor. He was a deeply compassionate man with a strong sense of community. He would volunteer and involve himself in a host of activities.
Bill was a man of faith and was active in his church activities. Bill was a longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and most recently St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church for the past 10 years.
Bill was a known talented musician and vocalist. His passion was his barbershop quartet “Hometown Reunion” for 25 years and his direction of the Magnolia Chorus. In his beloved quartet, he could sing all parts – Bass, Baritone, Lead, and Tenor. He played trombone with the Mississippi Community Symphonic Band and Mississippi Swing in their jazz ensemble. He participated in his church choirs.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marcia Tabb Lumpkin; daughters: Laurie Lumpkin Stovall (Steve), Suzanne Lumpkin Redd (Scott), Amy Lumpkin Kelly (David), Jeanie Lumpkin High (Scott), and Kimberly Lumpkin Steinbrink; his sister, Marcia Lumpkin Weaver (Robert); step sister, Jimmie Ray Gordon (Robert); Steven and Chris Rosario, whom he loved as his sons; grandchildren: Lauren, Stuart, and Brad Stovall; Layton Smith and Emily Anne Smith Dobbs (Dylan); Hannah and Madelyn Banks; Gracie, Faith, and John Thomas High; and Lizzy Steinbrink; and other relatives.
Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 until the hour of the service at 3:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, 7427 Old Canton Rd., Madison, MS 39110

Pallbearers will be Steven Rosario, Christopher Rosario, Steve Stovall, Scott Redd, David Kelly, Scott High, Stuart Stovall, and Brad Stovall.
