Charles Richard Fretterd, 83, passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 in Jackson.
A native of Federalsburg, MD, born September 26, 1935, he was the son of the late James Vincent and Mildred Elizabeth Fretterd. He moved to Natchez in 1976 where he was retail store manager at Sears for many years. Following his retirement from Sears, Mr. Fretterd and his wife owned and operated Ambulance Services, Inc. in Dover, Delaware. He loved the city of Natchez and was very involved in civic organizations and the community. He was past president of the Natchez Chamber of Commerce where, upon his retirement, he maintained his participation as a “Green Shirt” Ambassador. He had been active in Rotary Club of Natchez and the Natchez Bicycle Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, honorably discharged with the rank of Airman, First Class, having served as an Air Policeman and a Sentry Dog Handler.
Charles loved his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father & grandfather, loyal brother, and friend. He especially held close to his heart his only grandson, Avery, with whom he traveled the world. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy C. Fretterd; and his brother, Lt. Gen. James F. Fretterd and his wife, Ellen Ingram Fretterd.
He is survived by his daughters, Lynellen F. Mallett (Chuck), of Birmingham, AL; Suzanne M. Fretterd, of Brandon, MS; grandson, Charles William Avery Mallett (Kelli), of Montgomery, AL; and nieces, Laura Patrick, Linda Earls, and Jennifer Vermillera.
