Obituary for William Horace Foushee, III.
William Horace Foushee III (Bill), 87, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2022, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Bill was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from Cathedral Latin Catholic School, where he excelled as a student and athlete and made lifelong friendships, many of whom he got to spend time with last summer at a high school reunion. He chose to stay close to home for college and graduated from North Carolina State in 1957 with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. Soon after he was appointed Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, where he was trained as a pilot. His passion for aviation continued throughout his life, commenting just a few days before he passed, “I think I might get a new plane in heaven.”
Bill began his professional career with Union Carbide Corporation, which moved him to Memphis, and it was there he met and married Charlene Carloni. The couple moved to Jackson, MS in 1969 where he was President & CEO of Scientific Plastics, Inc., a plastic manufacturing company that he worked tirelessly to build until the sale of the company in 1988. Following five years as President of Wycot Corporation, Bill worked for Catholic Charities of Jackson until 1998.
Bill’s faith in God was an example to all who knew him. He was a faithful member of St. Richard Catholic Church since 1969, serving on the Parish Council, as a Eucharistic Minister and various committees. He was a leader of school youth mentor programs in Jackson and worked closely with Holy Child Jesus School in Canton. He stayed connected with many of the boys he mentored as they moved into adulthood. Bill led mission trips to Saltillo, Mexico, serving alongside his friend, the late Father Patrick Quinn. He enjoyed trips to Manresa House of Retreat for 40 years. In retirement, Bill never ceased serving others and spent countless hours helping families and individuals in the community, most actively through St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Bill’s true joy was his family whom he loved unconditionally. He was purposeful in his care and love for his wife, children and grandchildren. Granddaddy, as he was affectionately known, served them with joy, kindness, words of encouragement, humor and always with humility.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at both St. Dominic Hospital and St. Catherine’s Siena for their overwhelming love, care and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Horace and Lula Lewis Foushee; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Dick McCluney.
He’s survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlene Carloni Foushee; son, William H. Foushee IV (Melisa); daughter, Suzanne Foushee Nappier (Bert); grandchildren, Will, Ben and Gaby Foushee; Caroline and Zack Nappier.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23 at St. Richard Catholic Church, 1242 Lynnwood Drive in Jackson. A Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. will be followed by burial in the Church Columbarium.
