Obituary for Billie Scarborough Gray
Billie Scarborough Gray, 94, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at St. Dominic's Hospital surrounded by family.
Billie Ruth was born to William and Lizzie Pearl Lewis on May 2, 1927 in Pineville, Mississippi. She graduated from Pineville High School as Valedictorian, the University of Southern Mississippi, and William Carey College with Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. Billie married Emory Scarborough, Jr., from Biloxi, Mississippi where they lived until his death in 1970. She taught for over thirty years before retiring from the Pearl school district.
Billie was strong in faith and loved the Lord. She was an active member in her church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and spending time with family.
Billie was preceded in death by her husbands, Emory Scarborough, Jr, and Douglas A. Gray; brothers, Floyd Lewis (Clara), and Atha Lewis; sisters, Lou Alice Glisson (J.D.); Frances Gilbert (Roland); Elaine Sorey (Robert); Venvela Chappel (Melville), and Nannie Lois Lewis; parents, Will and Pearl Lewis and brother-in-law, James Allen Carr.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynette Harris (Kyle); granddaughters, Ashley Hancock (Garrett), and Janae White (Winston); great- grandchildren, Kash Hancock, Kearney White, Kyle White, and Holt Hancock; sister, Waudeena Carr; sister-in-law, Virginia Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi, Mississippi.
