Obituary for Linda S. Brown
Linda S. Brown, age 84, went home to be with her Lord, on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at her home in Jackson. Linda was born on July 1, 1937, in Attala County to Claude and Neva Smith. A 1955 graduate of Sallis Vocational High School, she was senior class president, yearbook editor, voted All Around Best Girl, and a member of several organizations including: Youth for Christ, Future Homemakers of America, 4H Club, and Glee Club. Upon graduation, Linda moved to Jackson and began working in the filing department with Southern Farm Bureau Insurance. She continued working in various administrative capacities in the banking, insurance, and mortgage industries until she retired from Underwood Law Firm shortly before her 80th birthday. Linda was a faithful and active member of Grace Bible Church (formerly Jackson Bible Church) since 1978. She began working as a financial assistant for the church in 1995 and continued until June 2021. Her church leadership recently recognized her contributions as a kind, hardworking, detail-oriented, dedicated, and godly woman. Linda, who was affectionately known as “Maw Maw”, dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and granddog, Lucy. Supporting them in their activities by attending concerts, dance recitals, graduations, plays and musicals, and sporting events was important and enjoyable. Not content to sit around, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and her willingness to help were part of her daily life. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Robert; parents, Claude and Neva Smith of Sallis, MS; sister, Nancy Cannon of Millington, TN. She is survived by her son, Jeff Brown and wife, Elizabeth of Jackson, MS; daughter, Jenny Rackley and husband, Tim of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Dr. Turner Brown and his wife, Dr. Katie Brown; Nathan Brown, Taylor Rackley and his wife, Aye, Rebecca, James, and Kate Rackley; her sister Sara Robinson of Ridgeland, MS; niece, Sharon Jernigan of Ridgeland, MS and nephew, Scott Cannon of Atoka, TN. Our family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our mom’s sitter, Kristie McCoy. Mom loved seeing her each day and her compassion and care the last six months was more than we could have hoped. Also, thank you to Mississippi HomeCare and Baptist Hospice for their invaluable assistance and service. Visitation will be 10 – 12 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Grace Bible Church, 380 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS, with the service to follow and interment at Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church Missions Fund, 380 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
