Obituary for Robert H. "Bobby" Vickers
Robert H. “Bobby” Vickers of Brandon, Mississippi passed away November 4 at the age of 65 due to an aortic rupture. Originally from Pine Bluff, AR, he graduated from Mississippi Baptist High School and Hinds Community College. He is survived by sister Carol (Phil) Hardwick of Canton, GA, niece Kimber (Matt) Burgess and their four children of Milton, GA, and nephew Clay Hardwick of Chattanooga, TN. He is preceded in death by parents Marion and Gladys Vickers, brother Jerald Vickers, and his beloved dog and fishing partner Farley.
Bobby was an appraiser with Statewide Appraisal, Inc. He was recognized as a top 25 service advisor in the U. S. when he worked at Fowler Buick. Years ago, after witnessing the devastation from tornadoes in his area, he started Tornado Shelters of Mississippi and installed life-saving shelters for clients across the state.
He had been a volunteer with the Robinhood Volunteer Fire department and was a supporter of local law enforcement. Once, when a car plunged into his lake, Bobby immediately dove in and rescued the driver as the car was sinking, for which he was honored with a life-saving award.
Bobby loved the outdoors, and his favorite place to be was on the pier of his lake with his dog, fishing, watching sunsets, and then, at dark, lighting the cross that shines across the lake during Christmas. His friends, who have many “Bobby-stories” to relate, were very dear to him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at The Pointe Church, 1120 Star Road, Brandon, MS, on Saturday, November 13, at 1:30 for Bobby’s friends and family.
Memorials may be made to Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (CARA) in Clinton, MS or a charity of your choice.
