Obituary for Mavis Sanders Gilbert
Mavis Sanders Gilbert died September 19, 2021 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 95.
A native of Attala County, Mississippi and born on April 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Sanders and Jimmie Lee Townsend Sanders.
Mrs. Gilbert was a longtime, faithful member of Southside Baptist Church in Jackson. Above all, she loved the Lord. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were the loves of her life. She was a talented seamstress, quilter, gardener and a magnificent cook. She surrounded herself with the love of her family and friends and was especially devoted to being a good neighbor. She was accepting and welcoming and will be missed dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Shelly L. Gilbert; son, Johnny Earl Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Brenda Kay Gilbert; and son-in-law, Robert E. Henderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Gilbert Henderson; son, Buddy Gilbert; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at First Baptist Church, 101 Church Road in Fannin. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside services and interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Beulah Cemetery in Weir, Mississippi.
The family would like to thank Mavis’ neighborhood and her neighbors, which were her friends, for their attentiveness, kindness, and concern shown to Mavis and to her family for all these years.
