George Schaaf Mori died peacefully on July 7, 2021 in Jackson, MS. George was born in New Orleans, LA, November 28, 1929, to George Mori of Frankfurt, Germany, and Katherine Schaaf Mori of New Orleans. George grew up in Jackson and graduated from Central High School in 1948. He attended the University of Mississippi, Millsaps, and Mississippi College and received a business degree from Ole Miss in three years. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was in the U.S. Air Force ROTC. After graduation, George served in the U.S. Air Force for three years. He was honorably discharged, having achieved the rank of captain. George returned to Jackson to join his family’s business Mori Luggage and Gifts, Inc., with his father. He worked in the business for his entire career, expanding it from one store in downtown Jackson to, at one point, ten stores in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, and Florida. He was also very active in the trade organization the National Luggage Dealers Association, which conducted millions of dollars of trade agreements in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America. At various times, George served in every office and on its Board of Directors. He was elected President of the Association twice. His service with NLDA enabled him to travel extensively and form close, lifelong friendships. George was a faithful and active member of Lutheran and Episcopal Churches throughout his life, most recently, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Jackson. George is survived by his wife, Brigitte, and her family, daughter Susan, her husband, Hal, and granddaughter Annika. He is survived by his children, Mark Mori of Jackson, MS, and Karen Mori Bonner and her husband Jeff of Madison, MS. He is survived by his much-loved grandson, Zachary Mori Bonner, his wife, Laci, and two great-grandchildren, Bowen and Lucy of Ridgeland, MS. In addition, he is survived by his niece Liz Lauer, nephews John Mori and George Mori, and their families, all of Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Jean and Betty Mori of Atlanta. The family will have a memorial service at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 5400 Old Canton Rd., Jackson at 3 pm, with visitation beginning there at 2 pm on Sunday, July 11, 2021.
