Obituary for Rose June White Ammons
Rose June White Ammons met Jesus in her heart sometime around 1950, but she met Him face to face the morning of Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 83. Our mama June was born on a farm in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Vera White on November 5, 1937. She was the fifth of seven children – Bobby, Jean, Joyce, Wayne, June, Zelma and Meda. (On Monday, Bobby and Jean were some of the first in line to greet her as she entered the Gate of Pearl.) She spent her childhood alongside her siblings in the sun and the dust, hoeing peanuts and potatoes; playing games together in the yard after dark in what spare time they were given. Running down the long gravel driveway in a pack to see the train as it thundered by on the tracks across the road. Without going into specifics, just know that life on the farm was hard. These brothers and sisters persevered through it all, together, forming a strong bond among them that has never been broken. June met Jesus as a child at Gatlin Church in Marlow. She was baptized and immediately began her trek of Faith. She graduated high school in 1955, met Bob Ammons, married him, and along came four kids: Robert (Butch), Randy, Robin and Roger. (On Monday, Butch and Roger were first in line to greet her at the Gate of Pearl.) Times were hard, money was scarce, the family inched on. This carload of six ended up in Mississippi when Bob surrendered to the ministry. The moves would come every four years or so, and June was always in the background with her sleeves rolled up, making the most of each new home. Finding a job to help pave the way and pay the bills. Facing head on the challenges of this thing called life. Dealing with the good and the bad, the twists and the turns. The challenges this family would face would seem insurmountable. But thanks be to God, there was always one immovable, unshakable anchor that these kids could count on through the years no matter what – and that was their mama. Lord Jesus, thank You for tying Junie Bug to your grace and mercy so that nothing on earth could shake her loose. May we do the same. Just like June. June loved her kids with her whole heart and she lived every day making sure they knew it. She was the best mama bear, coach, cook, dictionary, doctor, judge, jury, nurse, principal, provider, referee, teacher, taxi, warrior that this passel of kids could have asked for. Lord, for every mile and for every smile, for every clean sheet and cooked meal, even for the switches pulled from the plum tree, Lord, I thank You for our mom. Later on in years when the grandkids arrived, the original set of kids took the proverbial back seat. 😊 June made sure she let each grandjoy know how deep and wide her love for each was. The quality time she spent with each instilled a little bit of June in their heart. Jess, Sam, Brooke, Case … Mee Maw loved you so, so much and she always knew how much you loved her back. Nothing brought her more joy than the time she spent with you. June never got to meet her greatest grandson, but Mav’s mama will fill him in once he’s old enough to hear. Lord Jesus, let my heart overflow with love and joy. Just like June’s. June was a woman of few words, but we learned real quick that those few words were wisdom. She never sought spotlight, she never desired theatrics of applause or fame. She was a quiet, gentle woman who loved God and loved people. (I read somewhere those two things are kinda’ important.) Her acts of love through service were always in the background, done in stealth. It was her life’s passion to ensure that others knew the Father’s Love by the deeds He gave her to do. The more she did, the more He entrusted her with. With courage, she pressed on, committed to the tasks at hand. She knew she could do all things through Him and because of that truth, she bravely gave her all. Whether it was helping a neighbor, praying through the streets of Washington, teaching Sunday school, giving to missions, setting up a church library, being a leader/mentor in prison ministry, sitting with a shut-in, feeding the sick, cleaning someone’s house, witnessing to the stranger in line, giving oranges to the trash collectors … no matter the task, it thrilled her to know she was His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for those good works, knowing that those deeds would ultimately glorify the Lord. What a perfect unending circle. Lord, I pray I’m never too busy to show others Your Grand Love. I pray to have the courage to do the tasks You’ve given me to do. Just like June. June was an avid student of the Word. Her marked-up bibles are proof of the time she spent alone with God, sitting in her worn brown chair. She would gasp in wonder like a small child, amazed and in awe of the revelations the LORD would give her through the time she spent in His Word. Father, please let me slow down in this fast paced life and have a seat quietly in a worn brown chair, just to study Your Word. Just like June. June was a warrior for her family. A protector and provider. There were many times her kids were backed into a corner and there seemed no way of escape … then enter June stage left. When her warrior spirit kicked in and rose up, people better watch out. Oh, how proud we were of her in those moments. Dear Father, give me a warrior spirit to defend the lives of those I love. Just like June. June was faithful. Each and every day of her life, June was filled with hope and joy, goodness and kindness, faithfulness and love. She made the most of every day she had. She rested in the knowledge that no matter what, she was safe and secure because Christ was her home. The banner over her was love. So many life twists through the years could’ve left her bitter and hard. But Christ used the hard places to transform her into a jewel, a gem that glistened each and every day of her life on earth. Lord, I pray to live with Faith and Hope as the corner beams of my life. Teach me through mama to rely on You, no matter what. Let the bitter make me better. Just like June. There’s so much more to share but I shall conclude. There’s no way to accurately describe the sunlight she left on our shoulder. Our precious mama resides in heaven now. His Mercy scooped her up on Monday and set her gently down on High. Her feet have touched those golden streets. Her eyes have seen the King. She has been loosed. Her strength has been renewed. Her faith has become sight. All the half knowns are now fully known. She is healed and whole from head to toe. She is walking and talking and running and dancing, laughing with friends and family by her side. Oh Father, may we aspire to be there too! Just like June.
Preceding her in death are her father (Cecil), her mother (Vera), her brother (Bobby), her sister (Jean and her husband Tommy), her oldest and youngest sons (Butch and Roger). She is survived by: 1) Her siblings, their spouses and their beautiful families: Wanda (Bobby), Joyce, Wayne, Zelma, Meda. And 2) Her children, their spouses and their beautiful families: Randy, Dawn, Brooke, Case, Robin, Steve, Jess, Ben, Maverick, Samantha, and Jordan. And 3) too many loving friends to name who felt like family.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be given in mama's name to Crossroads Ministry, PO Box 3075, Ridgeland, MS 39158 or donate online (in mama's name) at www.crossroadsms.org This organization is a "get back on your feet" home for women coming out of prison As you know, mama was a leader in women's prison ministry for years. This would honor her and have life for others, which is what Junie Bug would've wanted.
