Obituary for Barbara Cumberland Bankston
Barbara Cumberland Bankston, 71, died March 26, 2021 unexpectedly of heart failure at home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon Monday at Sebrell Funeral Home Barbara was born on January 12, 1950 in Philadelphia, MS, the daughter of the late Dewitt and Christine Cumberland. She began her career in the insurance industry, where she worked her way up to Director of Claims, MS Public Entity. Barbara retired as Vice President/Operations Manager, Sedgwick James CMS. Barbara was a very strong, highly organized operations manager at a time few women had attained such a position. She was a longtime member of Oak Forest Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and nephews, Jamie Jemison and Matt Lack. She is survived by her sons, Chad Horton (Shannon) of Brandon; Chris Horton (Abby) of Tuscaloosa, AL; grandchildren, Chloe and Kinsey Horton, Kealeigh Burns, Kaitlin, Recie, Jack, Gramm, Charlie and Maryclaire Horton great grandchild, Maddox Burns; sisters, Gina Lack (David) of Madison and Retha Graham (Ed) of Clinton. Memorials may be made to Blair E. Baptist Hospital for Children, 2500 N. State St. Jackson, MS 39216.
