Obituary for Philip Lee Morgan
Phillip Lee Morgan, 57, passed away January 30, 2017. A celebration of life will be at 11am on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Wells United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi.
He was born October 8, 1959 and was a graduate of NECC of Booneville and attended MSU. As a young man he was deeply involved in 4H, winning many champion and showmanship awards.
He started Duckingham Landscaping Center in Booneville, managed Kergan Lawn & Landscaping, and owned rental properties that were used for sober living. Being a man of his word made him a successful business man. He was on the board of directors for Grace House Services and a member and trustee of Wells United Methodist Church. He passionately served in all aspects of his life and simply gave of himself to all those around him and let what Jesus had done for him shine through to lead others to Christ.
He came to the Jackson area at a point of crisis in his life, broken and alone. Grace House took him in and the transforming power of God's grace began to take hold in his life. Newly sober and willing to change, his weakness became his strength and his redemption story was visible to anyone with eyes to see. He will be remembered as a strong, kind man with a little boy's enthusiasm for life and a heart for the "least of these".
In his final weeks, as he faced certain death, Phillip entertained an endless stream of friends and family. They witnessed a man who had accepted his condition, devoting his remaining time to be with the people he loved and who loved him. All could feel God's presence and comfort. Even as cancer ravaged his body it never broke his spirit. He showed us all how to die with grace and dignity. We will all miss him dearly and would serve his memory best by striving to follow his warmly glowing example.
Phillip is survived by his husband, Robert Harold Kersh, Jr. of Jackson; mother, Kay Morgan; sons, Christopher Morgan and Adam Morgan; daughter, Mercedes Morgan; grandson Cody; granddaughter, Alaysia; brothers, Jay C. Morgan (Freda) and Delbert Lewis Morgan (Melissa); sister, Susan Moore (Ronald); two nieces, three nephews, and five great nieces all of Booneville, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Delbert Lee Morgan of Booneville; and half-brothers, Robert Morgan of TN and Richard Morgan of IL.
I lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wells Church Renovation or Grace House Services.
