Obituary for Wilma Grace Rainey
Wilma Grace Cook Henderson Rainey went home to meet Jesus Wednesday afternoon, August 24, 2022. She passed away at 94 years old at Ridgeland Place Assisted Living where she was a resident. She is survived by brother Nuel Cook, daughters Renee McRight (Johnny), Janis Creekmore (Jeff), Diane Dana (Charles), son Keith Henderson, granddaughters Meriwalker McRight Nipper (Justin), Jenna Lee (Pete), Laura Creekmore (Sock Beachum), April Dana-Rouse, Elizabeth Han (Shik), Charlee Williamson (Blake) and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Wilma was born to Noah Richard Cook and Fannie Boone May 8, 1928 in Johns, MS. She had five brothers; Paul, Eddie, Neil, Noel and Nuel. She graduated high school from Delhi, Louisiana. Shortly after, she began her adventurous life. While working at General Electric, she met her 1st husband, Carl Henderson, Jr. on a blind date. On Sadie Hawkins Day, she asked Carl if he was going to marry her! She met George Rainey after Carl passed away. They shared a love of fishing, dancing and playing bingo. Her last love came in her later years when she met Rayvon Smith. They shared many good times together.

Wilma was an active member of Alta Woods Baptist Church and the ladies Sunday School group. She had a very active social life. She was involved in many civic organizations; garden clubs, newcomer clubs, Girl Scout leader, The American Legion, The VFW and the Moose Lodge. Wilma loved playing cards. She was a member of The Shady Ladies Poker club, bridge clubs, square dancing clubs and bunco groups. She loved to bowl and was on several bowling leagues. Wilma helped lead the local Narcotics Anonymous group. She encouraged new and old friends to participate in her many activities and played matchmaker to several friends. She participated in the Senior Olympics and won 2 Gold Medals in bowling.
Wilma loved her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught them to play cards, do arts and crafts, how to fish and do jigsaw puzzles. She was their biggest fan at ballgames, graduations and weddings. She left a legacy of how to enjoy life to each of them.
Holidays were Wilma’s favorite time of the year. She loved getting dressed up with all her bling and glitz. Her two favorite holidays were Halloween where she could participate in contests, which she usually won, and Christmas where she could decorate. She loved family gatherings, watching the kids open Christmas presents and visiting with friends and family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Ridgeland Place Assisted Living, Compassus Hospice and her sitters, Pat Banks and Dee Dixon for the love and compassion shown to Wilma in her last years.
