Obituary for Willie Gray Clark
Willie Gray Clark passed away on April 8, 2022 at the age of 82, in Jackson, MS. Gray had a deep faith that emboldened him to face the world with a smile and contentment despite the pain of the serious medical issues that he faced daily. In 1939, Gray was born in Gilbertown, Alabama, the fourth of five boys. As a young man his family relocated to Mobile, Alabama. He then went to college at the University of Southern Mississippi where he earned a BS in Accounting and later completed his CPA exams.
Gray met Wanda Davis when they worked for Mercury Freight Lines in Mobile. He went to ask her out on a date, but she was not there. Hearing of his inquiry, Wanda arranged for the receptionist to write a note for Gray inviting him to call her. Gray saved the note, and it remained in his wallet for the rest of his life. The pair married on February 22, 1963 and remained married for 59 years until his death. They were blessed with two sons, Monty and Kevin Clark. In retirement, Gray’s favorite pastimes were maintaining his beautiful garden and fishing at the family cabin in Gilbertown (which he referred to as ‘the country’).
Gray is preceded in death by his parents Henry Avan Clark and Annie Mae Clark (Abston), his brother Jimmy Ray Clark and his granddaughter Hannah Clark.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Davis Clark, his sons Monty (Jan) Clark and Kevin (Carol) Clark and his grandchildren Casey (Alex) Giroux, Kristen (Josh) Brandt, Jessica (Noah) Jasper, Julia Clark, Sarah Clark and Jonah Clark.
