It is with great sadness that the family of William Martin “Marty” Hilton announces his passing on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, MS. A man of firm beliefs and trust in God, he will be remembered for his steadfast loyalty to his country.
Marty was born in Brookhaven, MS, on July 11, 1957, to Virginia Elmyra Hilton and Joe Glyn Hilton. Following family moves to Greenville, Charlotte, and Jackson, he developed a fondness for playing chess with former Governor Paul Johnson at the age of ten.
Devoted to serving his country, Marty proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two years as an Aircraft Loadmaster on the Lockhead C-5A Galaxy.
Marty graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1984. He was honored to be a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. Following a long career with the State of Mississippi Department of Transportation, Marty retired in 2010. After retirement, he enjoyed many hours on the golf course with his brother and nephews.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Virginia Hilton Thompson, of Clinton, MS; brothers, Thomas Glyn Hilton II (Linda) and Peter Manning Hilton; and sister, Ada Beth Hilton-Fontenot. Marty is survived by niece, Ana Fontenot; and nephews, Joshua Hilton (Chasity), Jeremy Hilton (Mary) and Chris Thompson (Cortney); along with grand niece, Marla Hilton; grand nephews, James Thompson, Luke Hilton, Ollie Hilton and Jude Hilton.
Marty was preceded in death by his father, Joe Glyn Hilton; grandparents Polly Robinson Hilton and Thomas Glyn Hilton; grandparents Myrtle Manning and Luther Manning and a special grandmother, Ovanda Red.
Services honoring Marty’s life will be held at a future date. In lieu of memorials, the family requests that you honor Marty by honoring a veteran.
