Obituary for William Leslie Carter Pitts
William Leslie Carter Pitts
William (Bill) Leslie Carter Pitts, 64, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on March 28, 2019 at Saint Dominic Hospital, from complications of pancreatic cancer. Bill lived in Mississippi for his entire life. He loved the state, and in 2001 developed The New Southern View, the first online magazine about Mississippi.
He graduated from Delta State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and was self-employed as a desktop publisher. Bill’s interests included mountain biking, rocks and fossils, photography, space and Earth explorations, science fiction, and his pets. He loved music, reading, movies, and documentaries. He was a gifted artist, and he also had a keen sense of humor. As a teenager, Bill helped excavate the fossil whale from Yazoo County that later became the Mississippi state fossil.
Bill Pitts was an exemplary husband and father. He was truly a family man and will be missed by his wife, Kathy Root Pitts, his daughters, Tracy Root Pitts and Laura Root Pitts, his brother Jim Pitts (wife, Jamie), cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and devoted friends. Bill Pitts was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Pelham Pitts and Sue Brent Pitts, and his brother, Patrick (Pat) Arthur Pelham Pitts (wife, Marty of Carrolton, TX).
Please send memorial gifts to Doctors Without Borders. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a future date.
