Obituary for W. H. "Wink" Oliphant
W.H. “Wink” Oliphant, 89, passed away peacefully, August 20, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS, surrounded by friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Myrtle Oliphant, his loving wife of 50 years, Nelda T. Oliphant, his daughter, Lana O. Sheffield, his sister Audrey O. Tripp, and his brother, G. Roby Oliphant.
He leaves behind his daughter, Lisa O. Peoples, his grandson, Wesley K. Cauthen and his brother, Gorman E. Oliphant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wink grew up in Carthage, MS, spent most of his adult life in Canton, MS, and moved to Madison 24 years ago. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, proudly served active duty in the Army during the Korean War and loved Mississippi State football.
Wink was a member of Canton First United Methodist Church and loved his Lord and Savior. He spent his career selling farm equipment and parts for Long Manufacturing, and later Riverside Tractor Parts, traveling the states of MS, AL, and LA.
The family would like to thank Dr. Larry Sivils of Madison, the staff and caregivers at the Home Place in Madison, and the staff and caregivers at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland for the kind and loving care given to Mr. Wink.
A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 23rd, 2017,at the Canton City Cemetery.
