Obituary for Virginia Cavett Parsons Hogan
Virginia Cavett Parsons Hogan passed away peacefully on March 14, 2022 St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS. She was 91. Virginia was born September 25, 1930, in Jackson. She was the third child and only daughter of James Richard and Jennie Moore Cavett. A native of the Belhaven neighborhood of Jackson, she attended Power Elementary School, Bailey Junior High School, and Central High School. She was a graduate of Millsaps College where she was a Chi Omega and member of the Millsaps Singers. From her earliest years and until the beginning of World War II, she spent her summers with her family at Lake Junaluska, NC, as they sought to escape the heat of Mississippi summers. These summer trips were among her happiest childhood memories. Her faith was formed and nurtured at Galloway Memorial Methodist Church where she was baptized. It was at Galloway, while she was pianist for the Ben Fatherree Class, that she met her future husband, Donald Parsons. They were married and to this marriage was born three children: Donald Parsons Jr., (Betse), Jennie Cavett Parsons Francis, (Bob), and Frank Connor Parsons. Virginia was a loving mother and homemaker, involved in and supportive of her children’s and her husband’s activities. She was also very active in various ministries at Galloway. Virginia served her community through her work with the Junior League of Jackson and its numerous programs that have been of benefit to so many. Professionally, she worked as a clerk in the Mississippi House of Representatives for several years. With the election of William Winter as Governor, Virginia went to work as Elise Winter’s Administrative Assistant. She was always very grateful for the opportunity that she had to work with Mrs. Winter and had very fond memories of that time. Following the death of her husband, she married Alex Ames Hogan. Through that marriage, she enjoyed warm relationships with Alex’s children, Ames Hogan and wife Carla, Sally Hogan Carter and husband Alan, and Rita Hogan Creech and husband Joe as well as their children. In addition to her second husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. James Richard Cavett, Jr. and 2nd Lt. Clinton Moore Cavett. There are 4 grandchildren, Catherine Megan Christian, Elizabeth Parsons Jack (Jeremy), Virginia Nell Hughes (Paul) and Allen Donald Parsons as well as 4 great grandchildren. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to Dr. George Patton, Dr. Jimmy Jones and Dr. Gordon Lyons for their excellent, compassionate care. The family would like to express our deep appreciation to her friend, Mary L. Robinson as well as the staff at St. Catherine’s. Mary was a devoted companion and friend to Virginia in her last years and provided her with great love, care and peace of mind. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
