Obituary for Thomas "Tom" Cooper
Thomas Marion Cooper “Tom” passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. He was 79. Tom was born in Goodhope, MS on November 25, 1941 to the late Richard and Flora Lay Cooper. Tom excelled academically graduating high school at age 16, subsequently going to college at MSU, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, he graduated at age 20 and joined the Mississippi Air National Guard; which he was a Navigator and retired as a Colonel. He worked for the IRS, Small Business Administration and the Housing and Urban Development; which he retired from in 1996. Over the years he has been a member of At Ease Gang. He has been a faithful member of Highland Colony Baptist Church where he has served in many capacities, such as deacon and on the finance committee. Tom enjoyed traveling and was a member of two rv travel clubs. He and his wife of 56 years have seen many sights and traveled many miles. Tom is a husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Kent Cooper.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, Kevin Thomas Cooper (Dr. Annie Cooper) of Wichita Falls, TX; Marlene Cooper Sykes (Ken) of Ridgeland, MS and Jennifer Cooper Snyder (Jeff) of Celina, TX; sister-in-law, Gerri Cooper Weaver (Dennis) of Sebastopol, MS; nephew, Dr. Richard Cooper (Lauren) of Baton Rouge, LA; niece, Melanie Cooper Johnson (Blair) of Madison, MS; grandchildren, Jaime Arnau-Lopez, Austin Cooper (Brittanie), Katie Cooper, Mckenzie Sykes, Abby Snyder and Alex Snyder.
The visitation will be held at Highland Colony Baptist Church Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 10 AM and the memorial service with Dr. Jay Richardson officiating, will be begin at 11AM.
