Obituary for Theodore (Ted) Paul Panaretos
Theodore (Ted) Paul Panaretos, 89, of passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2018 at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2018 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m. Entombment will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan. Ted was born on the home of his Aunt Helen, delivered by his Grandmother Anthe at 12 Noon on the 18th day of July 1928, in Highland Park, Michigan to Menas (Paul) and Alexandra (Catherine) Panaretos. After graduation in 1953 from the University of Detroit with a major in accounting and a double major in political science and Marketing, Ted worked in the family restaurant (Paul’s Steak House, seating 300 on the main floor and 200 in the banquet room.) His father passed away in 1960 and Ted continued the business until 1970. Ted returned to Law School in 1970, graduating in 1972 from the Detroit School of Law. Ted and Nancy moved to Mississippi and belonged to Holy Trinity –St John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Jackson. Ted was an avid golfer, winning the club championship at Western Golf Club in Redford, MI 3 times. He participated in the Michigan Open, Florida PGA, West Palm Beach Open, and Coral Gables Open. Ted raced Hydroplanes in the 225 class, setting 3 world records, winning a Worlds Championship before retiring the sport. Ted was a twin engine, instrument rated pilot. He is preceded in death by his daughter Adrienne Gooch. He is survived by his wife Nancy, who of all places met on a Delta flight in 1981, married in 1982 and have been married since, through thick and thin. His children, son, Paul and his wife Judy, daughter Alexandra and her husband Gregg and his beloved, grandchildren, Alexandra and Max and Theodore and his wife Amanda and Greg and his great granddaughter Penelope . He is survived by his beloved cousins, Rosemary, Patsy her husband Yiaani Karamalis and Harriet Raphael, nephew Gregg, nieces Paula, her husband Steve and Pamela. Ted Authored 2 books, continued his legal practice which he loved. At the time of his death he represented a client on appeal into the U.S. Supreme Court which awaits decision.
