Obituary for Sue Tribble Welch
Nina Sue Tribble Welch was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on November 8, 2021, while at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. She was 78 years old.
Sue Welch was born January 2, 1943, in Charleston, Mississippi. She grew up in the hills of Tallahatchie County with her parents, her brother Donnie, and lots of other family. She graduated from East Tallahatchie High School in 1960 and went to Delta State University where she earned a BS in Science and Secondary Education.
In 1962, her family moved to Greenwood, Mississippi, and joined Calvary Baptist Church where she met Jerald Welch. Jerald and Sue married in August of 1964. Soon after, they moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, for Jerald to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. While in New Orleans, Sue began her teaching career at Mid-City Baptist High School.
Sue was always teaching: at school, at church, and at home. No matter who she was teaching, Sue always pointed her students to Jesus. She taught science at Pillow Academy in Greenwood for 25 years before she retired in 2008 and moved to Ridgeland. She found great joy in sharing her love of science and the Lord with her family, especially her grandkids.
Sue was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. She knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior, followed Him all of her life, and served Him faithfully in and through His church.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Joel and Annie Tribble, and her brother, Donald Tribble. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerald L. Welch, her daughter and son, Stephanie Edwards and Jerald L. Welch Jr., son-in-law Michael Edwards, daughter-in-law Julie Welch, and five grandchildren: Matthew Edwards, Shelby Edwards, Tyler Welch, Gibson Welch, and Maggie Welch.
A memorial service will be held at Colonial Heights Baptist Church (444 Northpark Drive, Ridgeland) at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 11. Friends are invited to visitation with the family from 9:30 AM until the service begins. Dr. Chad Hunsberger, lead pastor of Colonial Heights, will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Hearts of Compassion Adoption/Orphan Care Ministry of Colonial Heights. Checks can be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church with the memo: Hearts of Compassion.
