Obituary for Stanley Frank "Sandy" Stater, III.
Stanley Frank “Sandy” Stater, III, died June 2, 2016 at UMMC after a valiant battle with cancer and accompanying complications. During his 65 years of life he attended White Station High School in Memphis, TN, then proceeded to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, and a Juris Doctorate degree from The University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. He then opened Stater Law Office in Canton, MS, in 1982, where he maintained his practice. He was appointed and served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Canton and later for the town of Flora. Sandy was a faculty member of Programs for the National Judicial College and the Mississippi Judicial College. He served as President of the Mississippi Judges Association. Sandy was an active communicant of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal, where he served on many vestries and as Junior and Senior Warden. Sandy had a love for the arts especially the theatre. He participated in many community theatre productions and would break into song whenever he saw the opportunity. Sandy was also a sports enthusiast, who would talk statistics and give you his opinion on what the coaches should have done. However, his true passion in life was his family. Sandy is survived by his wife, Edith; daughters, Stacey and Elena; and his sister, Georgia Stater of Germantown, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dorthea W. Stater & Stanley F. Stater, Jr. Sandy never met a stranger and was loved by many. Visitations will be held Sunday, June 6, 2016 from 3-5 p.m. in the Parish Hall of the Chapel of the Cross in Madison with a second visitation from 9-10 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2016 in the Parish Hall. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Cross followed by burial in the Chapel’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to either the Chapel of the Cross Capital Campaign, 674 Mannsdale Road, Madison, MS 39110 or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1640 Lelia Drive, #130, Jackson, MS 39216, both of which he was very passionate about.
