Obituary for Ruth White

Ruth White, age 90, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed peacefully from this life to the next at The Arbor in Ridgeland on November 13, 2023. Born and raised on a vibrant family farm in Union, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Huron and Lorene Gardner. Ruth attended East Central Junior College and worked for many years as a cost accountant.

She lived a full life, traveling the world with her devoted husband, Dr. John White IV, having been married nearly 55 years. Ruth was stepmother to John White V, David White, and Hugh (Lisa) White. She is survived by a brother, Charles Gardner, and sister, Margaret Ely. Siblings preceding her in death were Freda Smith, James Gardner, and Chester Gardner. She cared deeply for her many nieces and nephews, loved to give advice, and was often actively involved in many of their lives.

Ruth was an active member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church and served faithfully for many years on the Altar Guild. She held the title of treasurer/secretary of The Ralph Humphrey Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and The Central Medical Society of the Mississippi State Medical Association. As an avid tennis player, she enjoyed spending time with the Hot Flashes Women’s Tennis Club. She also enjoyed fine dining, traveling, and snow skiing.

No public service will be held, and internment will take place at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Flowood, Mississippi.
