Obituary for Ruth Virginia "Ginger" Keith McCloskey
Ruth Virginia Keith McCloskey (“Ginger”), 98, died peacefully on September 5, 2017, at Wisteria Gardens in Pearl, Mississippi.
Born November 3, 1918, in Alexandria, LA, to the late Samuel Wellborn Keith and Jennie Reese Martin Keith, Ginger lived much of her life in Alexandria, LA. She also lived in New York City, New Orleans, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, Covington, LA, and Jackson, MS.
A lifelong member of the Episcopal faith, Ginger loved and enjoyed life. She attended Louisiana College and Louisiana State University, served as the Executive Director of the Alexandria YWCA, and served as the house mother for the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Volunteering, including for the March of Dimes and for St. Tammany Parish Hospital, was a joy for her. Ginger was a talented pianist who loved to share her gift of music to accompany and entertain others.
Ginger was married to the late Everett Patrick McCloskey for nineteen years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers Jim, Douglas, and Jack Keith, and her sister, Jane Demarest. She is survived by three daughters: Karan Johnson (Paul) of Danville, VA, Meredith Kochtitzky of Jackson, MS, and Patty McCloskey (David Padgett) of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren: Elise Kochtitzky Stewart, Johnny Kochtitzky, Sean Kochtitzky, Tim Johnson, and Rachel Armstrong (Jon); and two great-grandchildren: Declan Stewart and Everett Armstrong.
The family would like to thank the Wisteria Gardens staff for their kind and loving care for Ginger.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on September 9, 2017, at Greenwood Memorials in Pineville, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation to one of the following: Episcopal Relief and Development or the National Association for Music Education.
