Obituary for Ronny Griffith
His life was remarkable in its simplicity
Growing up with a father in the army, he experienced life all over the US as well as Germany. It might surprise many of you to know that at one point, Ron was the drummer for a bona fide rock band – long hair and all! His love for music continued throughout his life, culminating in a record collection of over 200 albums, of which Ron was very proud. When he was just 17, he found his calling as a computer programmer and spent many late nights hard at work perfecting codes. As fate would have it, he met his future wife Suzanne (whom he lovingly referred to as Blondie) while writing computer code for Blue Cross. He would build the program, and she would do her best to break it. Not exactly the circumstances you would think would lead to a 33-year marriage, but the Lord works in funny ways. Ron’s greatest joy was being “daddy” to three children – Ritch, Jennifer, and Melissa, “Da” to his youngest son Jack (his beloved “Roo”), and “granddaddy” to 8 grandchildren. When Jennifer and Melissa were little girls, he would take them on special daddy-daughter dates. They’d get dolled up and he would treat them to whatever kind of “date” they wanted. He was the perfect southern gentleman and instilled in them expectations of nothing less from future suitors. He held that same high standard for his sons Ritch and Jack, and also taught them, through his example, the value of a strong work ethic. He loved his daughter-in-law, Savannah, and sons-in-law, Dee and Vince, as if they were his own, and was always there with love, support, and advice. Ron was an avid fan of the LA/Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and old westerns (he never met a John Wayne movie he didn’t like!). Above all, Ron loved the Lord, and despite the heartbreak and pain this worldly life brought, he never lost faith in his Heavenly Father. Through his death, he is now living in God’s eternal glory, reunited with his son, Jack, and his father, Henry. His legacy lives on in his wife, his children, grandchildren, niece, daughter and sons-in-law, brother and mother, Daisy Griffith.
