RONALD BENNETT WILLIAMS, M.D.
Ronald Bennett Williams, M.D. died on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 78.
A native of Meridian, Mississippi and born March 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Bennett and Mary Alice Hill Williams.
A 1959 graduate of Meridian High School, he attended the University of Mississippi and received early admission into medical school. He received his M.D. in 1966 and entered the United States Navy where he completed his internship and residency in anesthesiology at the Naval Hospital, San Diego. He then served at the Marine Hospital in Quantico, Virginia as the Chief of Anesthesia. Following his honorable discharge with the rank of Lieutenant Commander from the US Navy, he returned home to Meridian in where he practiced and established the first department of anesthesia at Riley Hospital.
In 1979, he relocated to Jackson and by 1990 had pioneered the first interventional pain management practice where he continued to serve patients until 2018. Dr. Williams was a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology, where he was boarded in both Anesthesiology and Pain Management. He obtained another Board Certification by FIPP (Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice). For over 50 years, Dr. Williams has practiced medicine. In the last decade of his practice, he was joined by his son, Dr. Rex Williams, which proved to be a most precious, loving and respected partnership.
Dr. Williams was kind and loving; he was generous to a fault. He dedicated his expertise and much time to his patients. He was a wonderful listener and wise counselor. He loved movies, hunting, farming, growing tomatoes, and lifting weights. Above all, his love for Christ was always present. He had faith in the Lord that was unwavering. He walked in the footsteps of Jesus in his personal and professional life. He adored his family. His grandchildren remarked of his wonderful presence as loyal, loving and the best role model in their lives. His wife and his children describe his love as AGAPE love, the highest form of love and charity, the love of God for man and of man for God.
He is survived by his wife, Marilynne Davis Williams, of Madison; his children: daughter, Christine McInnis, of Brandon; daughter, Judy Holladay (Scott Chandler), of Braxton; son, Dr. Rex B. Williams (Nikki), of Madison; daughter, Beth Trussell (Travis), of Madison; daughter, Kimberly Newsom (Jereme), of Brandon; son, Christopher Allen (Katie), of Richland; daughter, Lauren Williams, of Jackson; sister, Sylvia Walston (Hack), of Brandon; grandchildren: Eric McInnis (Kayla), Amanda McInnis, Hannah Holladay, Alex Holladay, Ryan Willaims, Drieu Field, Anna Claire Williams, Delaney Williams, Cole Williams, John Avery King, Carter Banks Traywick, Kennedy Claire Allen, and Jacksyn Ellis Allen; great grandson, Kolby Jackson McInnis; honorary sons, Keith Holladay and Latt McInnis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Sebrell Funeral Home, the Rev. John McInnis officiating. Interment will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery in Ridgeland.
