Roland Matthew Wilkinson, Jr., 75, died February 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was
was born on January 25, 1948, in Log Town, Mississippi, to Roland Matthew Wilkinson, Sr., and Thelma Louise Whatley. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023. A visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm Wednesday, February 15, 2023 and 10:00 am on Thursday, A graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm with full military honors, Friday, February 17, 2023 at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS.
Roland served his country in the United States Army as a helicopter mechanic during the Vietnam War. A dedicated family man, he enjoyed camping with his family, watching every New Orleans Saints game with his nephew David. He loved coaching boxing and coached for many years. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and was loved and will be remembered by many.
Roland loved cooking and teaching his family “his” ways. Roland was a relentless soul, who never gave up on himself or anyone else. He enjoyed shopping and finding fun gadgets. He always enjoyed boiling crawfish on the weekends, even if it was too spicy!
Along with his parents, Roland Matthew Wilkinson, Sr and Thelma Louise Whatley he is also preceded in death by a brother, Manual Whatley.
Survivors include his loving wife, Vivian Wilkinson, , daughters, Kimberly Gray, Marie Quigly, Michele Oppie, and Jessica Wilkinson. sons, Roland Matthew Wilkinson, III., Roger Dale, Waylon Wilkinson and Stepdaughters, Hope Bishop and Amanda Holiness. 28 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Katherine Lott, Linda McCormack, JoAnn Salvadras, Evelyn Wilkinson, Jesse Wilkinson and Joe Rodrique.
