Obituary for Robert E. "Bob" Lester
Robert E. “Bob” Lester died on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Jackson with his mother by his side. He was 60.
A native of Jackson and born April 20, 1961, he was the son of Juanita Pettigrew Lester and the late William F. Lester, Sr.
Bob was a very special man who never met a stranger. He liked to draw with a BIC pen and color the drawings with “crayolas.” Each color had a meaning. He spent a lot of time with pens, crayolas, and a yellow legal pad. He and his mother sang back and forth to each other during the frequent trips between his ¨Madison-Jackson¨ home and his residence at Boswell Regional Center. He loved music.
Everyone loved Bob. He knew no racial boundaries, in fact he knew no boundaries. You always knew where you stood; He was honest, direct, and purely genuine.
Bob had many “adoptive” mothers, and brothers, whom he loved dearly. The family is grateful for the many years of care, kindness, and compassion shown to Bob and his family.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, William F. and Allie “Mammaw” Pettigrew.
He is survived by his mother, Juanita Lester, of Madison; brother, William F. Lester, Jr. (Johnette), of Madison; sister, Gini Lester (Stephanie Bergner), of Joliet, IL; and a host of other relatives, including many of Bob’s Boswell mothers and brothers.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mississippi Kidney Foundation, 3304 N State St Suite 102, Jackson, MS 39216 or to the Wilson Research Foundation at the Methodist Rehabilitation Center, 1500 E Woodrow Wilson Ave, Jackson, MS 39216 or to a favorite charity.
