Obituary for Robert E. Bruce, Sr.
Robert Eugene Bruce, Sr passed away at home on Thursday evening surrounded by his family. Bobby was a navy veteran and served along with his brother who was a Marine and lost his life in WWII. Being the sole surviving son, he was honorably discharged from the Navy and returned home. He found his calling as a truck driver; he drove for Consolidated Freightways for 39 years and loved his job. After retiring, Bobby and his wife, Patsy enjoyed traveling the world and having adventures together. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. H. E. Bruce of Newton, MS; one brother, William Harrison Bruce; and three sisters, Elsie Shepherd (Willie) of Newton, MS, Estelle Grover (Robert) and Minnie Ruth Dillard (Hinton), both from Denver Colorado. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Ruth Bourne Bruce of Ridgeland, MS; one daughter, Ruth Savell (Maxie) of Union, MS and one son, Robert Eugene Bruce, Jr. (Karen) of Chama, New Mexico. He is also survived by his niece Dede McCormack (Bill) of Ridgeland, MS. He also has 4 grandchildren-Tammy Williams of Union, MS (Robin), Daphne Eddington Smith of Mobile, AL (Tim), Dan Savell of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Ashton Burrage of Clinton, MS (Matthew) and 7 great grandchildren - Nathan Williams (Erica) of Union, MS, Michael Williams (Jodi) of Union, MS, Bryce & Kyle Eddington & Andy Smith of Mobile, AL, and Presleigh & Conner Burrage of Clinton, MS . He also has one great great grandson, Lemar Williams of Union, MS. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS followed by a graveside service led by William Savell of Lake, MS at 3:00 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery in Jackson, MS.
Pallbearers will be Dan Savell, Nathan Williams, Michael Williams, Maxie Savell, Bill McCormick and Tony Mattiace. Lemar Williams will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
