Obituary for Rita Joyce Walker
Rita Joyce Walker was born March 5, 1955 in Jackson, and passed away May 20, 2021 at St. Dominic Hospital. Services will be Monday, May 24, 2021 at Lakewood Memorial Park pavilion at 11 AM. Rita was preceded in death by he her parents, Dr. Benjamin N. Walker, Jr and Eunice Gore Walker Watkins and H. Vaughan Watkins. She was also predeceased by her son, Brian Russell McMain and step daughter Leslie Brandon Shay. She is survived by her son, Shane Patrick McMain, her grandchildren Tyler McMain, Ashton McMain, and Kaitlyn Walker; her brother, Benjamin N. Walker III; and her sisters, Gwen Johnson of Madison; Cindy Stroud and her husband, Albert, of Knoxville, TN; and Silvia Waterston of Hampstead, NC. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Rita graduated from Manhattan Academy in Jackson and attended Mississippi College where she studied music. She spent most of her professional life as a legal assistant to several lawyers in the Jackson area. Rita loved all kinds of music. She had a beautiful voice and had been active in church choirs from Madison to Meridian. She was an accomplished pianist and could read any music put before her. She was a gentle soul who loved animals of any kind. She loved to read, crochet, and was a Western movie fan. The family requests that memorials be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
