Obituary for Ricky T. Blakeney
Ricky T. Blakeney passed away Saturday, September 26th, 2020 at the Copiah County Medical Center. He was 63.
Ricky was born July 7th, 1957 to the late Monroe Blakeney and Charlotte Taylor Blakeney in Laurel, MS. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was very active in serving his family, church and community. Ricky was the Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department of New Zion. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting. Ricky was a member of the Believers Bassman fishing organization, the manager at Calling Panther Lake, which is a state lake, and worked with the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. He had retired following 36 years of dedicated service with the USDA Natural Resource Services. He was a member of the Pine Bluff Masonic Lodge. He was a devoted family man and was loved by all who knew him. Ricky was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Charlotte Blakeney of Crystal Springs; his wife of 39 years, Peggy Blakeney of Crystal Springs; son, Brandon Blakeney of Crystal Springs; brother, Ray Blakeney (Cathy) of Crystal Springs; nephews, Tommy Parrett and Matthew Blakeney; nieces, Marcie P. Errington and Lacey B. Carter; sister-in-law, Brenda Parrett (Dewitt) and brother-in-law, Dennis Strong.
Services will be held at New Zion Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 30th, 2020 at 11 A.M. with Brother Web Armstrong officiating. The visitation will be 10 A.M. until 11 A.M. with the interment at New Zion Cemetery immediately following the service.
Pallbearers include Steve Lang, Robbie Myers, Tommy Parrett, Hunter Myers, Larry Singletary and Garrett Gaddy.
The family would like to recognize the honorary pallbearers, Hayden Walker, Dee Parrett, Paxton Errington, Jack Errington, Kasen Errington and the New Zion Volunteer Fire Department.
