Richard Wayne Swarthout, Sr., 75, died Wednesday, April 11, 2017 at Beau Ridge in Ridgeland. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church on Thursday, April 20, 2017 beginning at 11:00 A.M.
Richard, or "Dick" as he was known, was born on January 10, 1942 in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Donald Swarthout and Edith Suddith Roberti along with step-father, Mike Roberti. A veteran, he served his country in the US Army. While stationed at Ft. Sills in Lawton, OK, Dick met his wife, Linda and they soon married. He retired in the early 1990's as an executive with GMAC Finance Corporation. Dick authored and published 3 books during his life. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan, never missing a game. Dick enjoyed sitting on his porch listing to music and smoking a good cigar along with his beloved pets, Tiko and Gabby.
He would want to be remembered for his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ and his devotion to his Episcopal Faith which began in 1996, when he joined St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Roanoke, AL. He later transferred his membership in 2006 to St. Stephen's Anglican Church.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Linda Marie Swarthout and his brother Anthony Roberti.
He is survived by his son, Richard W. Swarthout, Jr. and his wife, Marianna of Brandon; nephews, Mike "Buddy" Roberti of Wetumpka, AL , Blake Roberti and wife Stephanie of Montgomery, AL and niece, Traci Roberti of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Chuck and Mike Swarthout and sister, Connie Swarthout.
Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church in the form of flowers or a cash donation, 5049 Lakeland Drive, Flowood, MS 39232.
