Obituary for Richard Lewis Burns
Richard Lewis Burns, 66, of Madison, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 after a prolonged struggle with diabetes and heart disease. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burns of Jackson. He was preceded in death by his only brother Charles “Buddy” Burns. Mr. Burns was a 1967 graduate of Central High School in Jackson, Miss. Following his graduation, Mr. Burns served three years in the US Army as a Forward Observer for Artillery in Korea. Mr. Burns worked for the City of Jackson for 30 years as a Civic Engineer Tech, eventually rising to Superintendent of Public Works for the City of Jackson. He is survived by Sean and Meaghan Burns of Denver, Colorado, and their children Kathleen, Mary, Anna, and Emily; and by his youngest son, Ryan Burns and Laney McNeer of Madison, and their daughter Ava. He is also survived by close friend and mother of his children Patti Burns Leake, his sister-in-law Jan Burns, his nephew Kevin Burns, and niece Kristy Burns. A brief visitation is set for Wednesday, May 25th, at 10 a.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, followed by a private graveside service at Rosemont Gardens Memorial Park.
