Obituary for Richard Kent Cooper
Richard “Kent” Cooper, 76, ended his battle with Parkinson’s disease on Tuesday, October 4, 2016; it was a battle he fought to the end. He can once again tinker without falling! Kent was born in Philadelphia, MS on August 8, 1940 to the late Gordon Cooper and Flora Lay Cooper. Kent graduated from Carthage High School in 1959 and then attended Jackson Barber College. He was co-owner of Cooper-Nelms barber shop for 10 years. He then went into sales and retired as Operations Manager of the Mississippi Animal Rescue League.Kent was a charter member of Highland Colony Baptist Church where he served as a greeter for 15 years.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gerri, son Richard Kent Cooper, II {Lauren} of Baton Rouge, LA and their children Richard Kent Cooper, III {Morgen}, Collyn Cooper, and Will Cooper. Daughter Melanie Cooper Johnson {Blair}. His brother Tom Cooper {Pat} and their children Kevin Cooper {Annie}, Marlene Sykes {Ken}, and Jennifer Snyder {Jeff}.Our family extends a special thanks to Mr. Monty Clark for his devotion, friendship, and countless Sunday morning breakfast trips to Cracker Barrel. Words cannot express our appreciation.Services will be held at Highland Colony Baptist Church on Friday at 11:00 A.M. with visitation at 10:00 A.M.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Colony Baptist Church, 1200 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS 39157, or the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, Jackson, MS.
