Obituary for Richard John Monsour
Richard John Monsour, 85, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at St. Dominic Hospital. Mr. Monsour was born on August 8, 1936, to Ellis John and Maggie Abraham Monsour in Vicksburg, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Parlor.
Mr. Monsour began Ole Miss in 1955; his time in college developed a lifelong love of Ole Miss. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, serving as Vice President. He served as Vice President of the student body and served as a cheerleader. After graduation he would return to Vicksburg to open Richmons mens clothing store. He met and married Diana Chapman September 21, 1968 and made Jackson their home.
Mr. Monsour was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and sang in the mens chorus. He was active in his community, serving as President of the Kiwanis Club and Jr. Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Monsour began working for the Equitable in 1980 and continued working as independent agent until his death.
He loved attending Ole Miss Football games until he was 83 years old. He especially enjoyed traveling with his children and grandchildren to cheer on his team.
A veteran, he served his country honorably in the US Army.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Diana Chapman Monsour.
Survivors are daughter, Caroline (Ashley) and their children, Embry and John Woods Hollowell of Jackson ; daughter, Stephanie (Brian) Holt and their children, Sam and Anderson of Madison.
He will most be remembered as devoted, caring and beloved father who loved and adored his daughters; a beloved husband and cherished grandfather and friend to many in the Jackson area and beyond.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
