Richard Don Williams, 78, died April 28, 2021 at home. He was born on August 27, 1942, in Neshoba County, the son of the late Joseph C. and Annie Flora Blount Williams. A graduate of Decatur High School, he continued his education attending Marion Institute and Millsaps College.
Mr. Williams worked for the Jackson Fire Department for 27 years, retiring as Personnel Chief. After retirement, he worked in real estate but his true passion was volunteering. Mr. Williams was one of seven recipients recognized in the 2002 Goodwill Industries Awards Volunteer Salute which annually honors Jackson’s outstanding Community volunteers. In addition to his volunteer work at St. Dominic’s, Mr. Williams gave his time to a variety of organizations in the Jackson area. Organizations that benefited from his generosity included: the Crisis Line, Friends of the Jackson Zoo, the Salvation Army, Stewpot Community Services, Methodist Rehabilitation Services, the International Ballet Competition and the Mississippi Commission for International Cultural Exchange. He served as a marathon coach for both the Arthritis Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Alliance of Jackson as well as the YMCA.
Along with his parents, Joseph C. and Annie Williams, he is preceded in death by a brother, Joe Henry Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Beryl Williams of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Flo Williams of Florence and a nephew, Joseph M. Williams of Florence.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
