Obituary for Richard (Dick) Turner Bowie
Richard Turner (Dick) Bowie, 62, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Madison United Methodist Church with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Park South. Visitation will begin at the church at 12:30 PM Friday. Dick was born on August 27, 1955, in Jackson, the son of the late James J. Bowie and Helen Shelton Bowie. A graduate of Callaway High School (Class of 1973), Dick continued his education at Mississippi State University. While at MS State he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, where he formed lifelong friendships that continue to this day. In 1978 after earning his Bachelor’s Degree, Dick accepted a position with the State of Mississippi as Probation and Parole Officer for Hinds and Madison County, where he worked until retirement in November 2005. After retirement, Dick worked for Buffalo Peak Outfitters. In 2015 he accepted a position as the Pre-Trial Diversion Director with the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office. A faithful member of Madison United Methodist Church, Dick was proud to serve as an usher. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels. Survivors include his wife: Fontaine Hutchins Bowie of Madison; daughter, Allison Fontaine Bowie of Madison; grandchildren, Henry James Bowie, Jacob Omar Bowie; brother, Shelton Bowie and his wife Cheryl Bowie of Collierville, TN; sister-in-law, Cynthia Lauderdale and husband Marc of Madison; brother-in-law, Harry Hutchins, III and his wife Barbara of Madison; nephews, Brian Bowie and his wife Jessica of Collierville, TN ; Andrew Bowie and his wife Cathleen of Collierville, TN; niece, Neely Lauderdale McGinnis and her husband Michael of Birmingham, AL; niece, Sara Lauderdale of Jackson; nephew, Will Hutchins and wife Meghan of Brandon; niece, Mary Loftin McBride and husband Packer of Jackson and one great niece and one great nephew.
