Obituary for Reverend Wendell Austin Gilmore
REVEREND WENDELL AUSTIN GILMORE
Reverend Wendell Austin Gilmore died on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Brandon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85.
A native of Union in Newton county, Mississippi, and born April 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Lee Austin Gilmore and Maude Bailey Gilmore. He graduated from Union High School where he was beloved by his classmates who selected him as best dressed, class favorite, and president of his senior class. He attended Clark College in Newton and William Carey University before attending seminary at New Orleans Theological Seminary.
Rev. Gilmore committed his life to Christ and served for almost 40 years as a Pastor in the Baptist Church including in Slidell, Louisiana, Carriere, Mississippi and Meridian, Mississippi to name a few. Following his retirement, Rev. Gilmore spent much time landscaping and gardening. He enjoyed yard work and growing beautiful flowers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dean Gilmore; brother, Montell Gilmore; and sisters, Margie McDiarmid and Cujette Hood.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Renee’ Wilson; son, Stanley Gilmore; brothers: George B. Gilmore; Melvin Gilmore (Sara); James H. Gilmore (Alfa); and Kenny Gilmore (Linda); grandchildren: Melanie Carpenter, Hannah Wilson, and Rachel Wilson; great grandchildren, Tristan and Neal Carpenter; and a host of other relatives.
Family will be present for visitation after 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland where the funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Rodney Bounds officiating. Interment will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gilmore, Sam Gilmore, Trey Tucker, Hunter Tucker, Cal Hudson, and Bobby Smith.
