Obituary for Reverend David Merritt
Rev. David Lee Merritt, 85, passed from this life into his heavenly home on December 16, 2020. He was with his family in Tulsa, OK.
David pastored churches in Kentucky and Mississippi for 60 years. He loved the Lord, his wife, and his family with all his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Weed Merritt of Jackson; daughter, Wendy Merritt Shoff (Jim), Prairieville, LA; son, David Mark Merritt (Judith), Owasso, OK; Grandson, Andrew Bryant Merritt (Kimberly), Collinsville, OK; Granddaughters, Lauren Shoff Cranfield (Callen), Prairieville, LA; Emily Shoff Wohlgemuth (Blake), Newport Beach, CA; Kim Shoff Allread (Brandon), Atlanta, GA; Rachel Marie Merritt, Owasso, OK; Hannah Merritt Underwood (Brock), Haskell, OK, and great-grandsons, Ryder, Grant and Gage Underwood, Haskell, OK.
David is known for his devotion to the Lord and to his family. He is legendary for having a joke for every occasion. The family wishes they had kept a journal of all his jokes to publish. David was loved by many and he will be missed.
The celebration of David's life will be held at 1st Baptist Church, Madison, MS on Monday, December 21st with visitation being at 10 am and the service following at 11 am. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.
