Renna Bennett, 91, died Thursday, September 1, 2022 at home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Griffith Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Sumrall, MS.
Renna was born on April 30, 1931, in Marion County, Mississippi; the daughter of the late Pierce and Mary Elnora Bennett. He was raised on a farm in Marion County one of 15 children. Mr. Bennett worked for as a crane operator for Gaylord Container in Bogalusa, LA and retired after 35 years. After retirement, he worked for Vesely’ s Nursery in Sumrall and Walmart in Richland.
Active in his community, Mr. Bennett was a Mason and member of Bowie Lodge 434, and York Rite Chapter 6 in Jackson. He was a faithful member of Griffith Memorial Baptist Church.
Along with his parents, Pierce Bennett and Mary Elnora Lott Bennett, he is preceded in death by his 11 siblings, a daughter, Kay Mitchell of Bogalusa, LA and his first wife, Lethea “Tootie” Douglas Bennett.
He is survived by his wife, Savannah Bennett of Jackson; daughter, Margaret Faye Bennett of Picayune; son, Rendell Bennett of Sumrall; son, Roger Bennett of Petal; son, Ronnie Bennett of Bogalusa, LA; step-son, Robert Roy Armstrong of Greenville; step-daughter, Savannah Cheryl Colyer of Richland. He is also survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, totaling 34 all together.
