Obituary for Rebecca R. McGowan
Rebecca R. McGowan, 93, died at St. Dominic on June 29, 2017. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Southside Assembly of God with burial in Rosemont Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Ms. McGowan was born on June 26, 1924, in Vicksburg, MS, the daughter of the late Major C. McGowan, Sr. and Margaret Hill McGowan. A successful businesswoman, she owned and operated a daycare for 45 years. Mrs. McGowan was a longtime member of Forest Hill Assembly of God, serving in many leadership capacities, including teaching Sunday school, serving as Director of Children’s Ministries, bookkeeper and music leader. In the early 1950’s, Ms. McGowan was a member of Magnolia Park Assembly of God in Houston, TX and was equally active serving as a Sunday school teacher and Department Director of Sunday School. She enjoyed reading and sending homemade birthday cards to her family and friends. They all considered it an honor to receive these cards and always cherished them. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Lee Glazner, brother, Howard Gerald McGowan, brother, Durwood Bruce McGowan and sister, Glenda Sue Edwards. Survivors include: brother, Major C. McGowan, Jr., of Terry, MS; sister, Betty Jo Raymond of Jackson; sister, Mary J. Jones of Pearl; sister, Delores F. Holliday and husband Sid of Raymond and numerous nieces and nephews.
