Obituary for Rebecca "Becky" Dear Usry
Rebecca “Becky” Dear Usry, 58, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at her home in Canton, MS. Visitation will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 12:00pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00pm to celebrate her life.
Becky was an active member and volunteer of Broadmoor Baptist Church. She was an amazing woman of faith and grace. She brought joy to everyone she met. Her positive influence and strength was an inspiration to all. Selfless describes her best. She lived her life as an example of how we all should live. She did not let her sickness define who she was or break her spirit.
Becky's battle with illness began at age 11 with juvenile diabetes. After years with the disease and the effect it had on her kidneys, she was told she needed a transplant. While awaiting the transplant, her devoted husband, Andy, became certified in peritoneal dialysis and was able to dialyze her at home instead of transporting her for dialysis. After months of waiting on a donor, Becky contacted the University of Alabama at Birmingham to inquire about her sister being tested as a possible biological match for organ donation. That very evening she received a phone call from the hospital advising her to get to UAB as quickly as possible because a donor who was a perfect match had been found. Becky was one of the first kidney and pancreas transplant patients at UAB 27 years ago.
Becky is preceded in death by her grandmother, Pearl Bishop; her father, Thomas Dear; her infant sister, Lacey Dear; her uncle, Red Berry; her brother in law, James Johnson; and nephew, Brady Johnson.
She is survived by her steadfast and committed husband of 39 years, Allen Andy Usry of Canton; her parents, Jim Higginbotham and Pansy Bishop Higginbotham of Brandon; her Aunt Pat Berry; her sister, Debbie Wright and husband Harold of Madison; sister-in-law, Shirley Johnson Parker and husband, Gene of Pensacola, FL; nieces, Brandi Boutwell and husband, Craig of Madison, Brittany Wright of Madison and Matt Seal; Shannon Stegall and husband, Danny of Pensacola, FL and Angela Jordan of Brandon; nephew, Jason Johnson of Baytown, TX; great-nieces, Kayla Boutwell and Isabelle Johnson; great-nephews, Walker Boutwell, Cole Stegall and Hunter Stegall.
