Obituary for Rebecca Ann Gibson
Rebecca Ann Gibson (Beckie), 78, of Rankin county, Mississippi, passed away October 24, 2020. Mrs. Gibson was born December 21, 1941, in Cleveland, Mississippi, to Arthur and Lois Webster. After attending Cleveland High School, she graduated from Shaw High School. She then went on to graduate from Delta State University in 1966. Mrs. Gibson was proud to be an elementary teacher for 29 years. In addition to teaching reading and math, she was also a physical education and driving instructor. She lived to tell the story of being the best driver in her training class. After a little bragging of how well she did finishing the course, her skeptical instructor challenged her to do the course in reverse. Mrs. Gibson completed the course backwards just as successfully.]

Rebecca Gibson was married to Mr. Jerry Gibson, a soldier she was divinely appointed to meet in a Biloxi church, where he saw her singing in the choir. Soon thereafter, the couple began building a life and family together that lasted 52 years.

She is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Lois Webster, her older two sisters, Maxine White and Emogene Duke, and her older brother, Paul Webster.

She is survived by: her husband, Jerry of Brandon,Mississippi; a son, Shane Gibson and his wife, Shelley, of Mendenhall, Mississippi; a son, Troy Gibson and his wife, Natalie of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and five grandchildren: Ella Wilmoth, and her husband, Logan of Pearl, MS, Caleb Gibson of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Noah Gibson of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Carter Gibson of Mendenhall, Mississippi, and Sarah Ann of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; a great-grandson, Beckett Wilmoth; a sister, Jane Hinton and her husband Terry; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bob and Sandra Phillips of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Mrs. Gibson loved the outdoors including gardening, tending to the yard, and keeping her birdhouses full of birds. She enjoyed sports and was very competitive when playing board games with her grandkids. If her children or grandchildren won something, it was because they earned the win. She spent many hours teaching them to swim, to play ball, and to play card games. The only thing Mrs. Gibson loved more than her family was her Lord. She was a dedicated follower, full of worship and adoration of Christ Jesus. We take comfort that she is, no doubt, in His presence now and praising Him wholeheartedly.
