Obituary for Phillip Leon Smith
Phillip Leon Smith died on Friday, December 25, 2020 at his home. He was 74.
A native of Jackson and a resident of Ridgeland most of his life, he was born on May 25, 1946, the son of the late Phillip and Bessie Adcock Smith.
Mr. Smith joined the United States Air Force where after 4 years of service, he dedicated more than 30 years of honorable service as Fire Chief with the Mississippi Air National Guard. He retired from the service in 2014. He also worked for several years in the cement lab at MDOT.
Phillip was a kind and generous person and a devoted family man. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was all about his kids and is remembered spending much time with them, including coaching little league baseball. He loved watching Ole Miss Football and the Washington Redskins. He will be dearly missed by his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his great grandchild, Lundyn Ariana Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda McDaniel Smith; sons, Phillip Stacy Smith and Chad Scott Smith; grandchildren: Anna Paige Smith, Tristan Drake Smith, Robert Carr Smith, Madison Skylar Smith, and Ella Bailey Smith; great grandchildren, Adrian Jordan Thompson and Cameron Javien Thompson; a half-sister, Frances Lusk; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A private family memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Sebrell Funeral Home.
