Paulette Hales Matthews of Flora passed away Monday evening Sept 12, 2022, at St Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson.
A private family viewing will be held at 12:00 pm Friday Sept 16 at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland MS Followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Flora Cemetery in Flora.
Paulette and her twin sister Annette were born in the Smith Community of Southwest Madison County on March 9, 1946, to William Howard and Mabel Hales. The fifth child of 9 children in the Hales family she grew up in the Smith Community and as a young child attended church at Franklin Baptist Church where she and Annette would sing together.
In August of 1964 she was married to Robert Matthews and over the next 7 years they had 5 children.
She is preceded in death by her mother Mabel Warner and stepfather George Warner; her father George Howard Hales, and stepmother Eva Elkins Hales; Her siblings Emma Lee Prisock, Robert “Bob” Hales, George Lewis Hales, Annette Case, Evelyn Alevia, and John Wayne Hales; her husband Robert Ray Matthews, her oldest and youngest sons Robert Jr and William Ray, her granddaughter Amanda Kaye Taylor; her niece Tammy Alford, nephews Bobby Ray Prisock and Scott Case
She is survived by her oldest brother William Alton Hales(Linda) and sister Peggy Jo Plummer (Ralph), Her sister-in-law Dean Hales, her daughters Sheila and Malissa and her son David Robert (Christie). Also survived by her grandchildren Misty Matthews, Eric Yoakum (Holly), Kristal Gren (Marvin), Sharie Mims (Daniel), Haley Blakely, Nikki Matthews and Amber Robinson and 10 great children and her boyfriend of over 10 years, David Roberts, and a host of nieces and nephews.
