Obituary for Paulette Vandendooren Hearon
Paulette Vandendooren Hearon died Sunday, November 11, 2018. She was 95.

A native of Kortrijk, Belgium, born October 9, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Juliaan and Maria Vandenberghe Vandendooren.

As a young girl, she worked to support her family during the Nazi occupation. Uncertain of her family’s safety and future, she met a young American soldier, her future husband, who came to the shop where she worked to purchase a gift of Belgian lace for his mother. In an extraordinary leap of faith, she bravely traveled alone from Belgium to New Orleans arriving by ship. Unfamiliar with the southern climate in the States, she arrived in her full wool suit during the summer. She and her husband were wed that day. It was this leap of faith that created a loving and devoted union that resulted in three sons: Erik, Mark, and Brian.

Mrs. Hearon was a devoted wife and mother, loving grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a longtime member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James G. Hearon; a son, Mark Hearon; grandson, Patrick Hearon; and brothers, Erik Vandendooren and Daniel Vandendooren.

She is survived by her sons, Erik Hearon and his wife, Marla Harbor, of Ridgeland, and Brian Hearon, M.D. and his wife, Artie, of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren: Meg Wiedner (Alex), Erika Lewis (Philip), Benjamin Hearon, and Philip Hearon; and a host of other relatives.

The memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the sanctuary of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, 305 N. Congress, Jackson. Inurnment to follow in the Columbarium at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided to Paulette by the staff and caregivers at Highland Home in Ridgeland. Special appreciation to Ms. Lilly Miner for the longtime wonderful care she provided and to the staff and the many friends at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church.
