P.R. (Ray) Brown, 97, passed away Sunday, September 2, at home with his family by his side.
Ray was born, March 29, 1921, in the community of Willows, MS, to Foster and Bertha Travilion Brown.
In 1942, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard (Navy), served as Gunner’s Mate, Third Class, his tenure was mainly spent in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II until being honorably discharged in 1946.Ray worked as a pipe fitter most of his life and was known by everyone as the hardest worker they knew. He loved hunting, fishing, outdoors, poetry, spending time with friends and family, music and dancing was a passion for him. He was a great story teller and loved people. He had a zest for life like no other, everyone who met him were touched by this trait. Ray was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church.
Ray is survived by wife, Kay Brown; daughters, Sherry Brown and Dawn Kyzar, step-son, David Barlow (Vanessa); brother Don Brown; grandchildren, Dawn Boteler, Lisa Crocker (Charlton), Shannon Poole, Tracy Allen (Johnny), Missy Hardin, Brandy Martin (Kenny), Jake Kyzar (Kelly), Vincent Clay (Michelle)and Tiffany Barlow; many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents, Foster and Bertha Brown; children, Wesley Brown, Janelle Brewer and Eddie Poole; Siblings, Wesley Brown, Kenneth Brown, Helen Bassett and Gloria Cox; grandson Forrest Cotten;Ray’s children’s mother, Ruth Parker.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, at 5 p.m. at the Hardin Residence, located at 125 Lakeshire Cove, Canton, MS, (Gate Code #2525). In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a Veteran’s charity of your choice.
