Obituary for Olean Katherine Byrne
Olean Katherine Byrne, 87, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Hospice Ministries. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church with burial in Briar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church.
Mrs. Byrne was born on February 1, 1929, in Mize, the daughter of the late Irvin and Annie Sellers. A graduate of Clinton High School, Mrs. Byrne was an all star basketball player for the Clinton Arrows. After graduation, she continued her education, earning her business degree from Draugn’s Business School. During her career, she worked at Robinson Brothers, Pearl Public School System, Baldwin and Lee Funeral Home, Grandview Heights Baptist Church and retired from Great Southern Industries.
Mrs. Byrne was a long time Sunday school teacher and former member of Briar Hill Baptist Church. She was a current member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Byrne loved to cook, was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and was known for her kindness and love for people. She cherished spending time with her family.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Basil Byrne and her son, Greg Byrne.
Survivors include: daughter, Libby Panter and her husband, Dr. Dan Panter of Brandon; daughter, Daphne Pigott and her husband, Rev. W. Tyler Pigott of Pearl; grandchildren, Brad Pigott and wife Amy of Meridian; Emily Cross and her husband Derrick of Pelahatchie; Traci Cummings of Arlington, TX; Katherine Walton and her husband Philip of Nairobi, Kenya; Danny Panter, Jr. and his wife Anna of San Antonio, TX; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild and her sister, Birt Nuskiewicz of Green Bay, WI.
