Obituary for Nell Bynum
Nell Marshall Bynum passed away peacefully on November 5, 2018 at the Nichols Center in Madison, MS, she was 102. She was born in Sumrall, MS On November 12, 1915. Ms. Bynum was a graduate of Sumrall High School and married her classmate, Howard Benjamin Bynum, in Hattiesburg, MS in 1937. After living the early years of their marriage in Laurel, Columbia and Hattiesburg, MS, the couple moved to Jackson where Mr. Bynum was employed with N & W Industries later known as Williamson Dickey. Mrs. Bynum was an avid gardener and received numerous awards for “Keep Jackson Beautiful” and was also known for her beautiful and artistic abilities in hand sewing, quilting and embroidery. Ms. Bynum was employed by McRae’s Dept. stores for 16 years in the children’s and men’s furnishings dept and was recognized as McRae’s outstanding salesperson during her tenure there. She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Benjamin Bynum and her son, Howard Benjamin Bynum, Jr. “Hal”. Her loving spirit and kind and compassionate heart will be missed by her daughter- Doris Gary of Madison, Ms.; grandchildren- Stephen Bradford “Brad” Gary of Kosciusko, MS, Stephanie Paige Frazier of Madison MS, Nathan (Lisa) Bynum of Flowood, MS, Nicole (Drew) Bailey of Decatur, TX; great grandchildren- Lillian Paige Frazier and Piper Nell Frazier of Madison, MS, Landon Bynum and Marshall Bynum of Flowood, MS and Lantana Fae Bailey of Decatur, TX; as well as several nieces and nephews in Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida.
