Obituary for Monty Chotard
Mary W. “Monty” Chotard died on Friday, February 05, 2021 at Beau Ridge in Ridgeland. She was 75. A native of Norfolk, Virginia and born November 23, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Lucille Durham Wilborn. She was raised in Lambert, MS and was a graduate of Lambert High School. She was a resident of Jackson for most of her life. She attended the University of Mississippi where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. During her freshman year, she went to the first Ole Miss football game of the season on a blind date with another freshman, a young gentleman named, Bennett Chotard, and that was that! She graduated Ole Miss with a degree in pharmaceutical sciences. Monty was a retail pharmacist in the Jackson area for many years. In 1985, she joined the Children’s Cancer Clinic at UMMC as a staff pharmacist where she devoted many years of service until her retirement in 2001. While Monty was uniquely compassionate and skilled in her work, she was never one to seek out accolades, committee chairs, or organizational memberships. What she did value was being a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring grandmother to her two grandsons. She had a fierce, unwavering devotion to her Lord, her family, and her friends. She loved playing bridge, cooking, reading, and music. Monty was a lifelong Episcopalian and particularly fond of her Sunday School class which she attended for many years at Northminster Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bennett Chotard, of Jackson; daughters, Lisa Chotard Lynch, of Flowood; Amy Brooks (Mike), of Jackson; and Allie Lyon Chotard (Amanda Kathryn Josten), of Oxford; grandsons, Truett Brooks and Bennett Brooks; sister, Lee Singletary (Dan), of Oxford; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. A private family service will be held at Northminster Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 N. State St., Jackson, MS 39216 or by visiting www.umc.edu/givenow.
