Obituary for Michael Alvin "Mike" Wright
Mr. Michael Alvin “Mike” Wright went to sleep peacefully on July 21, 2020, at the age of 72 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born on March 31, 1948, in Utica, MS. Mike attended Utica High School where he graduated with the Class of 1966. He then earned his Vocational Degree from Hinds Junior College, also in Utica, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Alvin Wright and Mrs. Margaret Olivia Thornton Wright, and his sister, Patsy Caroline Wright.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Michael Leigh “Sam” Hasbargen Wright of 38 wonderful years. He is also survived by numerous cousins. Mike loved his family and friends and was always willing to help anyone out that needed it.
Mike retired from Hinds Community College in 2005 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Utica Christina Church and the Christian Men’s Fellowship. Mike was a volunteer firefighter with the Utica Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Utica Jaycees. He enjoyed doing all sorts of woodworking. In his younger years, Mike also raised cattle.
Due to the present pandemic, a private service will be at 11:00 am at Utica Christian Church for immediate family and very close friends only.
Pall Bearers will be Bob Currie, Chris Ratliff, Ronnie McElroy, Ed Parks, Bill Carraway and Gerald Whittington.
His loving wife, Sam, requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Utica Christian Church at 316 E. Main Street, Utica, MS 39175.
Sam would also like to thank his longtime caregiver & beloved friend, Belinda “Lynn” Gaines, for all she has done over the last couple of years. She would also like to thank the staff at Palladium Hospice and Kindred Home Health for their care of Mike.
